Spain Takes Note of Korean Novelists Kim Hoon and Lee Soon-won

The Spanish media has acclaimed the Korean novels “The Song of the Sword” by Kim Hoon and “The Reflection on Jellyfish” by Lee Soon-won, which were published in Spanish under the sponsorship of the Korea Literature Translation Institute (KLTI.)

The KLTI said Thursday that the Spanish daily Periodico de Cataluna had praised Korean novels in its special report on Korean literature on March 30, saying Korean novels have the unique power to captivate readers, which is seldom found in contemporary European works.

The newspaper said that Korean literature has remained unknown in the country, compared to Chinese and Japanese works, but expected Korean works to become familiar to Spanish readers soon.

The daily said that the novel “Reflection on Jellyfish” depicts the universal emotions of human beings through the death of a cowboy, while “The Song of the Sword” poses the question of life and death in the form of existential issues in the historical novel.

“The Song of the Sword” was selected “the book of the week” by Basque public broadcaster EITB in February.
